This month I am going to use this space to highlight something from our Multiply Campaign. That might be an upcoming event you could be a part of, a cool story from a group or project or anything else I hear about that I want to share with you all.
This week I want to highlight our Interest Groups. I know a lot of them have already happened, but this is by far the most different and to me the most interesting new twist we have introduced to Multiply. We have had informal group projects in the past that have materialized organically, but this year we really pushed folks to do something together with no strings attached. No money making angle, no long-term commitment, just a group of people doing something together that they enjoy.
This past weekend we had two interest groups meet up, one hiked up Pilot Mountain and one did a little backyard farming.
The group at Pilot hiked from the bottom to the top of the mountain (5.25 miles and 1800ft elevation). They said it was a great hike and they were all smiles in the picture above.
Contrary to what Brandon believes, at Multiply Farm we don’t have any chicken manure to shovel, so the farm group helped us add a frost free water hydrant in the chicken run which happens to be next to our garden area as well. By the end of the day we had a much cleaner and much more efficient water system for both the chickens and the garden. We spent a little bit of time talking about how we raise chickens and shared some gardening tips with each other.
Although the hike was a success and we accomplished what would have been a day-long project in a couple of hours at the farm, that isn’t what these interest groups are about. They are about connecting people who might not know each other very well (or maybe at all) over a common interest.
Yeah, we are talking about doing a project at the farm beyond selling eggs to raise money for Multiply, and some folks from the group that went hiking are going to hike 20,000 ft over several hikes to raise money for Multiply, but that isn’t all Multiply was about this year. We are building together as a church this summer and that impact will last far beyond Multiply 2022.
