Believe me when I tell you, if your faith is only as big as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. You will be able to do anything.” - Matthew 17:20

This month I am on a journey exploring the idea of building a bigger faith for my own life. There are dreams that I believe are God inspired that I have yet to experience, but I want to experience them. I want to see God do even bigger things in my life and in His Kingdom and for His glory. I want to experience His power and grace in greater ways in my life, and I want to see lives changed and transformed, and the kingdom expanded. I don’t want to give up on these dreams because they are life giving, not just to me but to others – for Bridges Church and for Bridging the Gap and the Inspiring Hope Learning Center.

So, this month, I am going through a 31-day study on faith. We know that “...faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17) So, I am reading the Word more, I am praying more – on my knees, asking, seeking, knocking. I am listening more. I am reflecting more.

The verse above is fascinating and challenging, and so I spent some time looking into it, reading and researching. Here are some things I found out about this verse:

  1. FAITH STARTS SMALL. A mustard seed is tiny. It doesn’t take much to get started.
  2. IT'S ABOUT QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY. It is the object of faith that is important. Where is your faith? In God or in our culture or in ourselves? Faith is all about trusting God.
  3. FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS. Here’s the promise that catches our attention from Jesus. A faith the size of a mustard seed is all it takes to move mountains. Mountains are obstacles. They are challenges. They are big. And they can be scary. And yet, they can be moved; not by us, but by El Shaddai, God Almighty. He only asks us to believe. He wants to work in us and through us so we have a part to play but the power comes from Him. Sometimes we simply stop when we face a mountain. We stop before we really start. Faith tells us to speak to the mountain and tell it to move out of the way and it will. With faith, we can find victory, and challenges can we be overcome.
  4. FAITH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GROW. Just as a mustard seed can grow into a tree, our faith can grow and grow. Again, start where you are faith wise and be willing to go further. That is my hope this summer That my faith will grow, and I will grow closer to Him and experience Him in greater ways in my life and ministries. I am seeking greater faith!

I’ll keep you posted on what else God is teaching me in the next few weeks.
