Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

- Proverbs 31:30-31

This Mother's Day will be different than any other. For many, this will be the Mother's Day when they could not do the normal things like getting together or going out to eat or any number of things.
Yet, the true thought behind Mother's Day is taking time to really value and appreciate our moms. It is a good time to express real gratitude to them and to God for them. It is a time to express real love - to honor and recognize their impact in our lives. That can be done no matter what.
This may be the year we really are able to pull back some of the layers of Mother's Day and dig down deep into the real core of what it all really means. Perhaps this will be a year when we can express the deep gratitude of simply being alive and the efforts it has taken to give us life and to live.
God created the first man and woman out of dust, but then He started a new way of creating life - through parenthood. It was in His wisdom to have women give birth and become mothers. It is through this act that life continues from one generation to another. It is a huge responsibility and one that should not be taken lightly.
The writer of Proverbs 31 recognized all the accomplishments of a particular woman he knew. He encourages us to reward the Proverbs 31 women in our life, to let others know what they have done, and to publicly praise them. That is the essence of Mother's Day - telling them and others of all they have done and are doing. It is about not taking them for granted but to really notice and appreciate all they are about.
So this Mother's Day we say, "Thank you" to God for our mothers. We say, "Thank you" directly to them for all they are and all they do. We say, "You are appreciated and what you do is noticed and it does make a difference." We pray "May God bless you in all that you do and may His favor be upon you." We say, "We love you" because that is the greatest gift we know.
Thank you to all the mothers out there. Happy Mother's Day.
