We all show the Lord’s glory, and we are being changed to be like him. This change in us brings more and more glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

- 2 Corinthians 3:18

There are days when I wonder if real change is possible in my life.

Maybe you are like me. You see some things in your life that need to change.

Maybe it’s in a bad habit, or wrong thinking, or saying the wrong things, or making the wrong choices or taking the wrong steps – and it’s not just once but multiple times. They almost seem to be ingrained in you.

Why can’t I change?

The truth is, maybe you are changing but you don’t know it, because you can’t see it.

In 2 Corinthians 3:18, it states that ... “we are being changed to be like Him.” “Being changed” means that it is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. It happens when we are not looking. It happens just by being in Christ.

In our front yard, there are several cedar trees. Small ones for sure, but they weren’t there when we bought the house in 2016. Now some of them are over 6 feet tall and make really good outside Christmas Trees. I put Christmas lights on a few a couple of years ago – that was when I could just stand there and do it. Now I need a ladder. I have not seen them grow in the day to day– at least not noticed it at any given time, but each day, little by little they are growing.

It’s the same with us.

In our Rooted Small Group this week, we are working on telling our story – the Before, The Commitment to Christ, and the After. It was in the “After” part that I realized that I am a lot different now than I was back when I first committed my life to Christ. Of course, I am older, but it is more than that. I am still being transformed day by day in my commitment to Christ and in my “Christlikeness”. There has been real change in me. It is what He is doing in my life as I stay connected to Him. I don’t always notice the positive changes. I tend to notice only the things that still need to change. Maybe in that sense you are like me, only noticing the shortcomings or failures, not the growth.

This growth is not perceptible to me in the day to day but over time it is easier to spot. I am more dependent on Him, less stressed out, more trusting, less impulsive, less annoyed with life, more patient, more trusting in Him. I still have a long way to go, but I am on the journey with Christ.

How about you? Are you able to see the changes He is making in your life? Do you sense His work in your life? Do others see what He is doing in you?

Daily surrender to Him and this process is the best pathway to experiencing real change.

Whether you see it or not, that is not always up to us but know that God is working in you every day to make you more like His Son.

Be confident that real change is happening and rest in Him today.
