We often think of worship as something we do when we sing on Sunday morning. Which is true, but what exactly are we doing on Sunday? We are intentionally setting aside time to rest in the Lord. The way we live our lives, including the way we rest, can be an act of worship.

From the very beginning, God established a rhythm of work and rest:

“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.” - Genesis 2:2

God did not rest because He was tired. He rested because His work was complete. He rested to give us an example.

Jesus takes this even further when He says:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

Our deepest rest isn’t found in a vacation, a day off, or an empty calendar. Our true rest is found in Jesus.

Sometimes worship looks like stepping away from our normal routine. It could mean putting down the phone, taking a vacation, spending time with family, or simply being still for a little while.

So don’t be afraid to rest, whatever that looks like for you.

Rest is not wasted time. Rest is an opportunity to trust God.

I want to encourage you today to take the time to stop. Take the time to breathe. Take the time to enjoy what God has given you.

Worship Him through your rest, and remember that He is our eternal rest.
