The past couple of weeks I have spent quite a bit of time in the hospital. (Stacey’s dad, Cal, was in the hospital but is doing much better now.) There is a lot of time to think and reflect when waiting and there is a lot of time waiting in a hospital.

One day, we were in ICU visiting and Cal was feeling much better, just waiting to be moved to another room, so we were telling stories and laughing. Through the glass doors, I noticed a couple walking out. They were sobbing with arms wrapped around each other, holding each other up. I do not know what they were going through but the contrast was sobering. We were experiencing life. They were experiencing loss, all within just a few feet of each other.

There is a lot of time to sit and think in a hospital.

Many of you have been there yourself, either for yourself or for someone you love. For the most part, we live life in day to day mode. We watch tv. We clean the house. We go to work or school or shopping or errands. We keep moving. But there are times when life forces us to stop and reflect. This is not a bad thing. Reflection can be good.

This week, we start a new series, ONE LIFE, January 11-25 based on this one verse:

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. - Psalm 90:12

It is a prayer, written by Moses, a prayer to teach us the brevity of life, the preciousness of life, the gift of life.

Understanding this and being aware of this can change our lives. God wants to teach us the amazing gift that life is, the wonderful power of time, and the importance of wisdom.

He has given each of us ONE LIFE. Everyone we know has been given their ONE LIFE. Our lives are priceless because each one is entirely unique. Each life has its own impact.. Each life is a story, and every story matters.

In 2026, we are starting off on a journey to discover just how wonderful this ONE LIFE is. So join us over the next few weeks as we look at our ONE LIFE.
