Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin… - Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

This week, the day finally arrived, the launch of the Inspiring Hope Learning Center. Day 1 was a great start. At first, it was two sisters from our community and a little boy from a refugee family from Rwanda by way of the Congo. Three children. Three little lives so full of potential. Each one created in the image of God. Each one part of God’s divine plan.

Day 1 consisted of journal time, snack, outside play, learning about emotions in both English and Kinyarwanda, homework time, games, and the introduction of the Inspiring Hope Learning Center (IHLC) theme verse….

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  - Jeremiah 29:11

Later, two of the brothers of the little boy arrived for the last hour for some English lessons. It’s hard to realize just how difficult it is to be in a foreign culture and having to learn a whole new language right from the start, but they are determined and smart. It’s just a matter of time and hard work. They will do great. With these two, there were 5.

Three more children are planning to join which will bring it to eight. Eight lives. Eight students loved by God. Eight reasons to be excited to see what God will do in their lives.

The IHLC is just beginning. It began with a great sense of God’s joy – that these were exactly the kids who were supposed to be there, that day, day 1.  God has a plan, for our lives, the center, and the children, to prosper us and to give us a future and a hope. The work has begun!
